  • Bike Love.

    postimage

I'm ready for vacation, yo. What a busy week! Goo Jeh and Sie Goo Jeung were here from Ontario for the week, so there was a lot of big family time. Last night's family BBQ was a lot of fun. There was SOOOOOOOOOOOOO much food, and the sun was out, and my uncle's neighbour, an elderly lady, came and joined us. After eating, the adults went inside to watch their Chinese TV show while Sarah, Kevin, Alvin, and I hung out in the field behind the backyard playing frisbee, soccer, and catch. Other than the heavy family time, there was work, and a very physical day on the farm on Thursday (including the bike ride to Farmer Mike's and then to the farm and back home) and pottery class. Wowzers!

Today Jody came for a visit. It was awesome. We biked down to the river, picnicked/feasted by the pond (salad, cantaloupe, crackers, cheese, and hummus), and then biked to the museum to check out the food exhibit. There was also an exhibit about the history of Chinese settlers in the province. Neato. Afterwards, we biked back home and then Jody left. I headed out to do a bit of work on the garden, but the heat was killer. I made very slow progress.

Now I am happily resting indoors. Tomorrow will be spent at the hotel restaurant lending a hand for Mother's Day brunch.

AND THEN! 3 days of work until vacation time!! YAY!!

  • Big city feel.

Ah, what a gorgeous Sunday. Tons of sunshine. Tons of flying on my favourite two wheels.

I went for a bike ride this morning and was exposed to the wonderful world of the river valley! My goodness. I didn't know we had such nice, scenic trails here by the river. There's this great black metal pedestrian bridge with wooden planks(?) that takes you across the river. Lots of greenery, lots of active folks taking advantage of their weekend morning. So nice! Oh! And by the water treatment plant, they've made this artificial stone wall that reminds me of the sea wall at Stanley Park. I biked a lot, stopped at the Pond to rest and eat my Granny Smith, then biked some more before making my way home.

And then I biked with Sarah to lunch at Di Yee's!

And then it was another big family supper at my grandpa's house followed by another solid hour of cruising on my bike with Kevin, Alvin, and my aunt and uncle from Ontario. We stopped at the park downtown and I sat in the grass guarding the bikes and soaking in some sun while they all wandered around. I can't think of a better way to spend a Sunday evening.

    I LOVE MY BIKE!!

Story! On Friday, I went for a walk at lunch with Tanya and Shirley. We got to talking about bikes because Shirley brought hers her and Tanya is thinking of buying a bike, but along the way Tanya said "You have an awesome bike, though." The way she said made it sound like "awesome" was the name of the bike. I liked it. I have an Awesome Bike. :)

Didn't get to my gardening though. I'm gonna have to take care of the rest of the grass-pulling this week I think, before I get too lazy about it.

    Later gators!

  • Sick day post.

I was off work sick yesterday (fuzzy throat and brain with sore muscles) and today I stayed home instead of working on the farm. Darn! It's been a while since I've been physically sick. I think my last few sick days have been more mental health days than physical sick days. Oh well. Makes for a short work week, and I will be healthy for the weekend (hopefully!).

    Here are some pictures.

My favourite music passage of all time. Breaks my heart and heals it up in just 4 bars, every single time I play it.

Here is the garlic I got from Farmer Mike. This picture was taken last weekend. Unfortunately it hasn't really rained since Sunday. Our soil does not hang onto moisture well, and I have not fixed that or watered the garlic, so these babies are in poorer shape as of today's check-in.

  • In the mornin'

I'm amazed at how my body is responding to the earlier rising of the sun. Even after later nights, I feel more alert and more ready to go in the morning. I wake up when the sun wakes up. It's like the sunlight is wrapping around me and is pleasantly raising me up out of my sleep.

Today I saw a worm struggling in the centre of the sidewalk. Half of its body was caked with dust. I was walking from the hospital to my car, and it was so strange because without a second thought, I bent down, scooped it up, and moved it over to the dirt by the grass. I think spending some time in the garden has already (re-)infused in me a greater appreciation for the little guys.
